Gateway Skateboards toont de grote collectie skateboards van Michiel Walrave. Bij de tentoonstelling wordt een publicatie uitgegeven, pre-order hier.

“In the summer of 1987, a toy store skateboard caught my 12-year-old eye, its cartoony graphics and cheesy branding hinting at a world beyond toys—a gateway into skateboard culture. My friends and I rode those sluggish boards until older kids with pro setups showed us the real deal. After upgrading through an “in-between” board, I eventually stepped into the world of professional skateboards. Years later, nostalgia led me to collect these vintage toy store boards. Despite their flaws, they represented the thrilling promise of individuality, style, and the raddest subculture I’ve ever known.”

De opening van Gateway Skateboards is op vrijdag 21 februari van 19.00 tot 22.00 uur, in aanwezigheid van de kunstenaar.
